DIY Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood Hydrosol Spritz ~ Wanna be!

Updated: 6 days ago

Because the pool won't wait, and neither will your glow

Let’s talk about one of the most divine, refreshing, skin-loving mists in the Young Living lineup:

The REAL Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood Hydrosol.

If you’ve used it, you know. If you haven’t, you just have to!!

Young Living's hydrosol is a byproduct of the steam distillation process used to extract Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil from sustainably harvested trees in Hawaii. It contains a gentler concentration of many of the same skin-nourishing constituents found in the oil, especially alpha and beta santalol, which are known for their calming, hydrating, and skin-soothing properties.

But alas, as things go with good stuff... It's currently out of stock. And while we wait (impatiently) for Young Living to restock, we don’t just sit around with dry cheeks and sad vibes. We make a DIY version. Because life, and summer, and pools are happening now.

This is my favorite quick spritz to keep skin happy after sun, sweat, saltwater, or stress. It’s also an emotional anchor and makes an incredible pillow mist or prayer-time reset.

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 oz glass spray bottle

  • 1 tablespoon Epsom salt

  • 20 drops Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil

  • Spring or distilled water (enough to fill the bottle)

How to Make It:

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt with 20 drops of Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood.

  2. Mix thoroughly with the back of a spoon until the oil is fully absorbed into the salt. Don’t skip this step, it’s what allows the oil to properly disperse in the water later.

  3. Add your salt and oil mixture to your 4-oz spray bottle.

  4. Fill the rest of the bottle with spring or distilled water.

  5. Cap it, shake well, and keep shaking until the salt fully dissolves.

Why Epsom Salt?

Because oil and water aren’t exactly besties. The Epsom salt acts as an emulsifier, helping the essential oil blend into the water instead of floating on top like it owns the place.

Bonus: Epsom salt delivers a dose of topical magnesium, which your skin (and nervous system) will happily soak up. One heads-up: it can leave a little white powdery residue on your skin or clothes once it dries. No big deal. Just wipe it off. Easy peasy.

How to Use It:

  • Mist your face in the morning or after cleansing to refresh dry skin. Just keep it away from your eyes. It will burn. You won’t go blind or anything, but salt in the eyes? Not a good time.

  • Spray over your body post-pool or after a workout to hydrate, soothe, and pretend you’re at a spa.

  • Use as a pillow or linen spray to help your brain (and body) wind down before bed.

  • Mist the air around you before prayer, meditation, journaling, or when you're feeling all the feels.

  • Store in the fridge for a refreshing cool-down spritz on hot days. Not required… just really, really nice.

Want to level it up?

Add 5 drops of Sacred Frankincense to the Epsom salt mix and thank me later. It brings a sacred depth to the blend that takes this from “refreshing” to revival in a bottle.
